I'm going fishing. My husband and I are going with Tera and Jason to enjoy a guided fishing tour on the green river.
I was going to run this morning, but I set my alarm for 6.....pm. I did attend a Barre class so something happened. Then I did the unthinkable - I went to lululemon. Bought the cutest purple running outfit even though Tera called me Barney. I'm comfortable with my love for purple.
Last night was our Ragnar meeting. We are called the "12 deadly zins". We decided to put names of odd Zinfandels on the back of our shirts. . We are going to wear argyle leg sleeves and our shirts will be purple. Tads! I still need to find 3 more runners. Ahhhhh!
Since I don't like to post without a picture then I will leave you to stare in awe at the bruises from our Devil Dash.
It was a blog about running. Now it’s just a place to put my thoughts on my grandson (he’s perfect), being a flight nurse (yippee!), traveling and running. Hoping to throw down a 50 miler ultra before I’m too old.

Think the NFL would hire me?
"Don't let me die". Those were my thoughts on my last run. Yesterday I had 12 hours during the day off duty before my last 12 hour night shift for the week. I signed off at 1020 and figured if I hustled outside I could get my 14 miles in before it became a total scorcher outside.
I was wrong, so very wrong.
I felt good too! Until about mile 6. OK, mile 4. I wasn't tired I was just HOT. I stopped at the rec center to use the bathroom (I had to pee! - dang I'm getting old), ran a couple more miles and stopped at my car which I had parked so I could stop at it twice to get ice water and energy if I needed it. I had some energy chews and a big bottle of icy water and headed off again. Miles 6 - 10 were interesting. I stopped at about mile 9 to fill up my water bottle with ice and water at the gas station (and pee again - for the love!). By the time I got to mile 10ish, I only had ice and no water and I felt totally exhausted and HOT!! SO, I finished up that loop and when I got to my car again I drank another ice water and decided to go back to the off duty apartment and maybe finish up the last 3.4 miles just running around the complex. When I drove off I noticed the temperature was 94 degrees. All bets were off. I don't want to get heat exhaustion and not be able to work later that day. So I called it a done deal at 10.6 miles.
Splits (remember long slow run....emphasis on SLOW)
1 - 9:44
2 - 10:44
3 - 11:01 - Big hill
4 - 10:42
5 - 10:30
6 - 10:30
7 - 10:49
8 - 11:27
9 - 11:41 - Bill hill
10 - 11:07
Last .6 miles - 10:35
Total 10:60 miles in about 1 hour 54 minutes.
1205 calories.
2000 feet higher above sea level then I'm use to and HOT!!
I went to run errands briefly after I had drank about a gallon of ice water. I picked up some KT tape for my foot. I had been reading about it and thought it would be world giving it a try. Since KT tape was all I could find in Rock Springs, that was the tape for me.
I watched the YouTube video and didn't do SO bad. I'll need to retape it again, but most of it stayed on overnight.
Orange and black - weird Halloween Colors.
Peaking through the tops of my shoe!
The next morning I was AMAZED!! There was no pain on getting out of bed. I am a believer! I still wore my shoes as much as possible, but I plan on keeping it taped for a couple of weeks. Oh it's heaven.
Do you think I have the skills for the NFL to hire me to help wrap their athletes??? Wouldn't that be sweet!

Ah ha!...and things are clearer
Finally figured out why my foot hurts so bad when we are flying. The vibration!
In the past month or so I have noticed that I'll be sitting on the plane on a transport and my foot starts to ache and when I lift it off the ground I could just scream HOLY HANNAH! So much pain. I would try different foot positions and crossing me legs, but sooner or later it was start to hurt again. Well, during our last flight I had an epiphany. It was the vibration of the plane. We travel in a pretty small plane and there is some vibration. SO, I tried setting it on the life port, but that proved to be uncomfortable.

We travel in a pretty small plane and there is some vibration. SO, I tried setting it on the life port, but that proved to be uncomfortable.
Then I tried making sure that the pained foot was on top of crossed ankles. That didn't work too much either. (Please keep in mind that my patient was sleeping and very stable - plus they look towards the back of the plane)
No one was neglected in the taking of pictures.
Before we left for our final leg home, I grabbed some 2 inch tape and wrapped my foot on top of my sock.
It totally worked. It gave my foot just the extra support it needed and I was able to walk comfortably. This picture was when I got back to the apartment after the flight.
When we landed, or took off (I can't remember) in SLC it was a beautiful sunset. The red sunsets have me a little paranoid from my childhood upbringing in an organized religion. The one that says the end of the world is near when the sun (or the moon) becomes blood red. Hard for me to come up with the details but when I was little I was so scared that I use to check the sunrise and sunset just to calm myself. Another great reason why that whole shebang is just not my thing. Guilt and fear..ick.
This is a little time backwards, but I like the overall message.
On our flights lately I have noticed how cool it is to get above the clouds. It's summer and so those pretty fluffy clouds usually mean a little "light chop" or "shake, shake, shake" in our airplane. But the views are amazing. On the right is a picture as we are below the clouds, but can still see whats above. It's very obvious how clear and bright the blue sky is. The picture on the left indicating we have broken free of them and we are just skimming the tops almost like sliding across a marshmallow pillow. It was a pretty clear day and these clouds were pretty high - about 20000 feet. The thoughts that came to me (there is no patient in the airplane at this time) is about how clear things are over the clouds. It feels very metaphoric to me. A cloudy day of trouble and one look up and I know above those clouds is the bluest clear skies, clean air and clarification. In my mind I hope to keep that analogy in my heart. When I'm feeling covered in clouds to just look up and ahead and know that whatever is causing my "cloud" that soon it will clear and there is a place that is cloud free. Like the song, "I can see clearly now the rain is gone..." Close?
I'm not usually that observant, but I've spent a couple of days soul searching and re-evaluating. I seem to do it often and with the changes in the past year, it was due. Whenever there are changes there are adjustments to be made and when I finally get a plan in motion there is always something that is going to temporarily derail the plan. I thought it would be easier as my kids grew up and I grew older, but it really is not. Now I have to come face to face with the beast of mother nature AND still try to live my life as well as I feel I should. The wonderful news is that no matter how old I get or the obstacles I face I can always move forward at whatever pace I can. (running metaphor......:))
And I must say..I LOVE running!!

I'll get a dolla
I'll get that dolla when I'm paid. Threw in an extra 6 hours in the ICU today. I admitted a post op cardiac surgery patient. That works pretty good for me. I get to keep my skills fresh and see friends and co-workers I miss. The patient did great too. Although if one more person said to me, "Can you take a heart?" I was going to loose it!! I have taken care of post op cardiac surgery patients for at least 7-8 years. If anything there was just some computer charting things that have changed that I had a few questions on. I wasn't even hurt when the CT surgeon said, "Is she allowed down here?". Hahaha
I didn't have to go in to work until 1pm, so I dressed in my running clothes and went to the Library. I left the house with full intentions of going to the gym, but I spent too much time at the Library and then went to get some parts for my sports water bottle. After that I had to get home to get ready for work. Dressing for the run counts, eh??
The best news! I was able to check out "Hood to Coast" DVD. I've been wanting to see it for a long time and now I have it in my hot little hands!
Hehhhehehehehe!
Other updates and good news.
Audrey 3
Look at this pumpkin grow! My husband put it in a basketball net and screwed some more hooks in the porch to hold it. It's bigger then the one on the ground.
I feel this pumpkin needs a name. Hmmm....Money Pumpkin??
SCORE!
The best for LAST of the Great news!!
My niece is here! My niece is here! My brother Dave and his wife, Melissa had a little baby girl today. I have no stats, just a name.
Lissett Hancock-Taylor
Can't wait to smell her!
PS. I still iced my foot and kept a shoe on all day. I'm breaking my arm patting myself on my back!

Fighting the PF.
Plantar fasciitis. It's worse then the worse cuss word. I know the new shoes will help but I also know I have to step it up. Today I iced it twice, rolled it on a frozen water bottle, took ibuprofen and rubbed it with bio freeze.
I also know that one if the most important things is to wear my inserts and wear good stable shoes all the time. I've taken a great pair of Mirage running shoes that I've never worn and made them my house shoes. I don't like shoes in the house and although my carpet is in dire need of a cleaning, I still don't like shoes in the house. I'm sad I can't have them as my next running shoes.
Admittedly I have been in quite a bit of pain in the last few days. Not icing like I should and walking around barefoot has bit me in the ass. I did more research today. Many have continued to run throughout. So....here I go, trying to run and heal my foot at the same time! Crazy runner!

Demoted to house shoes.

East Canyon part deux
Do you remember when I ran this?
We ran it again this morning. This time Tera came along and Jason was able to run at his own pace. Matt came along and rode his bike up and down the canyon a couple of times. It certainly felt better then last week! Tera and I stuck together and we hit the top faster then last week, but we ran slower downhill.
Team Rydman matching shirts. We were also wearing black shorts. (I hate this picture of me...but I didn't want to skip showing my hubby)
Gosh, I hope we can be seen on the side of the road! Bright and we all have our compression sleeves on! Jason, Tera and me. I'm trying to pretend that I'm short - but really it looks like I'm farting.
Interrupt today's run recap with update on my Devil Dash injury. It's mostly scrape but there is two big bruises. The picture does not do it justice, of course.
Today's Stats:
Total time to top: 40:34 - 3.58 miles 11:19 min/mile - I didn't hit the lap button, so there is a little guessing involved.
Miles: Last week - This week
1 - 10:31 - 10:35
2 - 12:05 - 11:40
3 - 11:03 - 11:29
The rest is a guide, not a promise. Last week I hit lap and then it started lapping every .67 miles. This week I didn't hit it and I have an average for every mile.

6.67 - 8:28
Last 405 feet - 8:30
Obviously slower at times, but going up was faster and the total run was 6.7 miles with a 10:24 min/mile pace.
Burned 815 calories.
After we are done and feeling pretty darn good!
Modeling my new shorts and shoes. I loved them both, my feet felt great. I was nervous my new MPG shorts would ride up and my thighs would light on fire. I used Body Glide, just in case. No fire, no rubbing and no ridding up. Thinking that this may be my Top of Utah half marathon outfit.
Running with Tera was great. She is a little faster in that she doesn't stop and walk as much. I'm a little faster on the downhill, but we had a great rhythm and we were even able to talk a little. I love this run. Gets me ready to run up hills AND down hills.
My foot was sore and I iced it twice. I have a good feeling about these shoes, but I know it will take time. I also plan on buying the Hurricane 14's as soon as the next model comes out and I can get them for cheaper. Cheap skate? Maybe.. OK, yes!
Tomorrow I am going to throw in an extra shift in the ICU! Yeah! Shoes shoes shoes!! Long run of 14 miles planned for Wednesday in Rock Springs. If I don't get it done that day because of flights then I'm going to do it Friday morning before we leave to go fishing.
I still have 2 spots left for the NAPA Ragnar! If anyone is interested in joining us then email me. We always have a blast and welcome runners of all levels. Minimal speed average is 11 min/miles.
