Slow run in the WIND!

It's a beautiful day in Rock Springs today.  Cool, clear and temperature around 50's.  Perfect for a nice run!

I wanted to run slow, but it was a little slower then I expected.  Yesterday I was finally sick of eating not as good as I should and not enough protein.  I've started keeping track what I eat and my running again on My Fitness Pal.

I have the Las Vegas Ragnar next Friday so I'll only do one more easy 3 miler before then.

I walked after the eight mile mark and it turned out to be 8 miles in 1:30 with a 11:10 average min/mile.  At about mile 6 I turned a corner and ran into quite the headwind.  More then anything I hate running with a headwind.  I feel like I'm running in place.  It was a little cool, but it felt good after being sweaty.

How awesome is this!  My shoes hit right at 100 miles today.
I rotate through 3 shoes and I love these the most.  Probably because they get the most compliments!  They still look brand new too.

I even have my post run treat!!
My very favorite almond milk ice cream

I know I'm trying to eat right, and this isn't too far off.  I just need to ease up on the non-protein foods and eat more meat.  WHICH - I will! Funny thing is that I have definitely eaten plenty of fruits and vegetables every day.  I love them.

Foot is doing OK.  I can tell when I slack wearing shoes all the time and icing so it's a little more sore then usual.  That is my fault.  Since I had the flu I have been a total slacker!  I need to get back on it all!  Tonight I'm putting together my packing list, song list and checking out my legs for the Ragnar.

Nothings better then a Ragnar to get me back in the groove!!

What do you do to get out of a funk after being sick?

Busy busy bust

I have been so busy it's crazy!  You know those days that you are running around with errands and appointments and you realize that your house is trashed from running in and dropping stuff and you are exhausted.

Last night I was SO tired.  I spent the day at an appointment, errands and back to the hospital to chart my last late flight.  Plus I spent most of the day at the car dealership buying a car for my daughter.   Long story.

So that leaves little time for running but I plan a run for Saturday when I have a day off up in Rock Springs.  I'm already ready for the Las Vegas Ragnar, I'm not worried about that.
************

Training in the Bell 407.  It's tight in the back seat!  Good thing my preceptor, Judy is a tiny thing.

"Three crew in a tiny ship"
Sung ala Chris Farley's, "Fat man in a little coat" from the movie Black Sheep.  A true classic.

I am usually very consistent about where I put my work stuff so that I don't leave without something.   After my late flight in Ogden, when I finally got home and I was so tired.  I just threw things on my dresser.
Most of this stuff goes in my EMT pants/Flight suit pockets.

I finally cleaned my room today.  My bed looked like this for 2 days.  My helmet thrown on my husbands side of the bed, helmet back and work bag just tossed onto the floor.  Luckily Matt has been in California or there wouldn't have been room for him in the bed!

I feel super lucky to have the job I have.  Being able to visit my patients the next day and see that all the people involved made a difference is so rewarding.  I know that flight nurses and medics get the cool uniform and helicopter rides, but I know I couldn't do it without the great care from the first hospital, the skill of our pilots and the care given at the receiving hospital.  It's just fun!

6 miles in the park.

A great day for a run today.  I am worried about back east and all the weather there, but I did take advantage of a beautiful fall day.  I haven't ran since my half marathon 8 days ago.  I wasn't sure where to start but decided to run 6 miles.  Not a tempo run, more like a warm up to running again.  I felt great until mile 4 and then started feeling tired again.  I'm sure it's because I'm not cross training as much and frankly, I've been sorta lazy.  Lazy with exercise, not with life.

I ended up running 6 miles in 1:01.  I wore my new pink shoes and they felt great!  There was a small hot spot on my heel but I can work that out.

I also noticed that my hurt foot felt like it had a better form then the other foot.  My right (hurt foot) stepped lightly and took off and the left foot seemed to have more of a stomping sound.  Guess I should be using all the massage and exercise for one foot on the other foot.  If I don't I might start running in circles.

Here are my splits:  10:13 min/mile average.

I will do a day of speed work and a long run this week and then next week is taper time, so I'll do a couple of short tempo runs.   My total mileage for the Las Vegas Ragnar is 16.1 miles.  My longest run is 6.2 miles.  I'm planning on an 8 mile run on Saturday in Rock Springs.  Hopefully it will be better then blizzard condition.  I'm getting excited for it!  I absolutely LOVE Relays!

There is a little lake/pond in the middle of the park.  It was beautiful.  About 60 degrees.

My new tank.  I loved it of course.  This is post run.
My new pink shoes!!  I think they are going to work.  I plan on putting a few more miles on them before the relay.

Soon as I got home I was informed that my daughters car didn't run.  We picked it up from the service station, she drove 2 miles and it died.  SO - I decided we would trouble shoot it.  We ended up replacing all the spark plugs and the spark plug wires.  It still didn't start.  It's so frustrating.  At least we tried!

Thank god for head lamps!!

Do you fix your own car??
Never.  But I did when I was younger and want to teach my daughter to at least try to figure it out.

How was your run today?
Great.  I am grateful for my legs/feet today and the perfect running conditions.

Bam!

Just before it was going to be too late to fly....we got a call on Saturday!

I may or may not have been BEAMING with excitement!!  I can't even tell you how grateful I am to my team Nicole, Brent and Brock for teaching me the ways of the rotor wing and giving me sweet experiences.

Actually I don't think I stopped smiling for at least a day.  I was able to do the walk around (we walk around the aircraft while it is spinning and check for any open doors, loose dilly wops (not a technical term), leaking fluid, etc.  Safety first and I am really taking note of the little things.  We had to fly for about an hour, it was after sunset but the moon was full and the mountains were gorgeous.  The patient pick up, packaging and loading went well and on our way back to the UofU we stopped at the Provo airport for gas....errrrr  30 gallons of fuel WITH.  The crew told me what to do to assist the fuel pumping guy and I got to stand outside the helicopter, under the spinning blades and do what I was suppose to do.  Of course there were a few feedback items on debrief, but overall I did good and will do better next time.  Standing under the blades freaks me out, but I trusted my crew.  We have lots of fun but when "shit gets real" or it has to do with safety there is zero room for shenanigans.  Plus, while I was standing there.  I watched the BYU football team unload their plane.  Sorry boys, awesome award went to me....because I was in way cool helicopter!  Boom.

Pt was unloaded and handed over to the medical team in the hospital and we were in a rush for a quick turnaround (pilots time out).  I grabbed this awesome photo before I jumped in.
Teeheeheehee
I get paid for this.

Much responsibility comes with the job but so does a lot of satisfaction!

One flight down in my Rotor Wing Orientation!  I'll be in Ogden tomorrow if you have a need for some critical care transport!

****************
Sunday was my family party.  Halloween!

My brothers girls.  The baby niece wouldn't look at the phone for a pic, so I flipped it around and took pictures of her, looking at herself.  Then I included big sissy.  Beautiful girls!

I dressed as a candy striper (stripper???)  does not sound right.
It was a costume in our costume box and I wore it over my compression pants and a t shirt.  I'm standing next to my son Jake.  He's not dressed up, that's how he rolls.

I'm getting ready to run today.  Haven't decided how far but it will be a "take it easy" maybe 6 miles.  I'll post the recap.  I suspect my foot will hurt, but I also think I'll do fine.  I took a whole week off after the half marathon, so I'm itching to get some time in.  I'm wearing my new pink shoes too.  YES!!

How do you train with races close together?  (I have the Ragnar in 1.5 weeks)
I am playing it by ear and listening to my foot and my body.
