Road Trip

Last two days I've been up in Rock Springs at work.  The first day there we had a flight but the fixed wing couldn't get into the Salt Lake airport (weather) for a few hours.

I was in my get-up and of course I'm going to take a picture!!  Waiting for the pilot to say, "go time".  Luckily things cleared up and we were able to complete our transport.

Today started out with a text message from Wyodot (Wyoming state web site) that "alerted" me to the fact I-80 was closed about 20 miles west of Rock Springs.  I signed up to get alerts about I-80 from the Utah border to Rock Springs to keep me posted when I'm driving up there a lot.  Needless to say my relief nurse was late.

THEN, it took me four hours to drive to Salt Lake City.  FOUR hours!!  I can usually do it in a little over 2 - 2.5.  Luckily I had snacks, hot coffee, water bottles and my iPad and iPhone.  I sent some work emails after we finally were just STOPPED.  Apparently there was ANOTHER accident.

This is what I was missing:
Family cookie day!!!
We all bring our own cookies and frost them together.  We also dip pretzels in chocolate AND this year we used a pinterest idea to decorate sugar cones as Xmas trees!  Thank you to my dear sweet Sami who took care of our families stuff.  Of course the baby pic is thrown in there because she's adorable.

Speaking of adorable!!
Three of my parents granddaughters.
Xadi, Sami and Abby.
My brother Dave's daughter, my daughter and my brother Marks daughter.  That is some genetic genius there my friends!

Here is Xadi's little sister Lisette.  I had to get my baby smooches and smells in for the month!  She wasn't in a very good mood.

She packs a killer pouty lip!
SO adorable!
Don't worry, I put down the iPad and did as I was told by her majesty.  Walk and pat, walk and pat....

Today was a rough day.  I listened to Rich Roll's book, "Finding Ultra" and I'm working on a book review about it.  I also listened to Joe Rogan's podcast with Rich Roll on it. Then I listened (I had lots of time) to a book called, "Why we are fat".  It's the second time I've listened to it and I took notes all the way home when I could.  I am fascinated by the history of food and how it is viewed as nutrition, etc.  It's so full of facts and studies that I am going to put together a couple of posts on it that just skims the surface but I think it's mucho importato.  (Espaniol?  Nada?)  Hahahaha

All of this awesome information about running and nutrition and I just want to run!  Instead I ate 4 sugar cookies with frosting.  Bah HUMBUG.  I must be in the anger stage of my injury?  I know I would feel better mentally, physically and emotionally if I could just pound out a long slow run!  Guess this is where the rubber hits the road (OK, I really don't know what that means).  Tomorrow I have a Barr class and hopefully that will cheer me up.  My nerve study was moved up to the 20th and I have some Christmas shopping to do!

First time for everything.

I'm posting from my iPad. I love it. It was worth saving and planning.

I can't type very fast on it so I am going to sum up today in pictures.

Merry Christmas!

Family Time

Day four of my five days of no work.  Hopefully I will actually get it posted on the day I write it.  In my defense, I was busy obsessing over my wonderful new iPad until 2am.  I'm pretty sure that's the best way to spend a day off.

Yesterday I did take the time to drag myself to the gym.  I've had a month off of running and although I'm not running I wanted to do some aerobic exercise.  Pilates, TRX and athletic conditioning classes are awesome but I thought I'd throw in some bike.  Stationary bike.

Thirty five minutes at a pretty good clip and it felt pretty good.  I had a good sweat going and the foot didn't hurt at all.  I did some machine lifting and called it a day.  Next time I'll avoid the busiest time and pizza night.  The smell of pepperoni burps was nauseating!!

Today is a BarrEvo class that is a cross between Barr class and lots of low weight repetitions.  I will hurt tomorrow, I can promise that!

Last night I had my daughter dye my hair.  I am sick of having gray roots and I have been spending so much money on my hair for so long that I decided to just give the home dye a shot.  It actually worked pretty good!  My hair feels great and the gray is gone.  I haven't curled it yet but I'm excited to see how it looks when it's done.
Playing with my iPad as my daughter does the work.

Biggest picture is after.  It was fun and it worked!
Then the kids and I were messing around with the camera on the iPad.  Daniel didn't want to cooperate with a family picture at midnight so Sami and I made it happen.
This is my favorite picture.  I'm not really laughing but my kids are.  I'm so lucky.  I love them dearly!

My foot ached a bit after cleaning for a few hours but hardly at all after icing and rolling.  It's starting to itch.  Like deep in my heal.  I think that is a sign of healing.  It's my heel and I'll grasp at anything!!!

What exercises do you do when you can't run?

It's here! It's finally here!

This is my 3rd day off (well now it's the 4th), in a row.  After working soooooo much the last two weeks I am a little lost.  Sure, it's Christmas and I could decorate or shop, but I don't feel like it.  I've watched a lot of movies on Netflix, in bed, eating chocolate (dark, but still chocolate) and even some popcorn.
Luckily I had signed up for some kick-ass classes at the Pilates studio and have worked out at least every other day.  I wouldn't want my body to go completely to crap in 30 days or less.

It has been almost 30 days since I have ran.  I am a run-a-holic.  Do I get a medal for this?  I should.  There should be a Universal Committee for Runners That Rest While Injured (UCRTRWI).  Medals should be given out for being "good" and letting the body heal.  I'm going to put that idea in my back pocket!  You know runners are basically medal whores?  Ok, just making sure.

Today I have spent the day longingly waiting for the Federal Express man.  He is carrying my new iPad around in his truck and apparently is taking his time.  I can't do anything that will cause me to miss the ding dong of the iPad arrival.  Thank god I have two dogs that go bat shit crazy when the doorbell goes off.

Don't tell my foot, but yesterday I was actually considering that it may be healing a little.  There was ice, massage and some KT taping.  I wore my new Mizuno's all day and I even participated in an Athletic Conditioning class that did not aggravate it.  That is all I can say for now.  I'm afraid my foot will see this and start acting like a big baby again.  In my head I'm cheering right frighty to hang in there and let me start running again in two weeks.  Just two weeks.....common big gal!

When my iPad did make it my son Daniel helped me get started.

With a photo montage.
Then my daughter Sami got home.  She decided that a montage full of pictures of me before my shower were not enough.  She decided to take a picture of me, in my yucky hanging out around the house cleaning clothes as I changed lightbulbs.
She is adorable, and quite the actress!

I love my iPad!!  LOVE!

Yeah, this is how I'm Rollin'

I'm rolling slow that is a fact!  My medic and I were sitting on the bench at Walmart waiting for our pilot when I saw the evil villain KingPin.  I didn't know he shopped at Walmart.

Yeah, I'm going to hell.  But I have already secured a place anyway.  Notice my boots?  That's what I wear to work and sometimes they are nice to my foot and sometimes my foot hurts more in them.  It doesn't make sense.  It never had.

I bought a new iPad after a year of planning and saving.  I also bought a protective cover for it.  Apple sent me an email saying that the iPad would get here Monday and the cover on Tuesday.  Doorbell rang on Friday and it was Mr. Federal Express.  He had me sign for a package from Apple.  What would you think?

WRONG!
It was the cover.
My iPad is partying in Memphis over the weekend and undoubtedly eating ribs.  There is going to be a stern discussion when I get him/her in my hot little hands.
What is an iPad anyway?  Her? Him?

I LOVE my parents.  My mom read my blog and offered to give me some of her essential oils for my foot.
I'm not passing up on something that could help but for sure won't hurt.  My mom has a long history with orthopedic issues and never takes any pain medicine.  She loves and uses essential oils and lots of naturalistic remedies. She also goes to a medical doctor for some stuff which makes me happy.
So now I get to smell like my mom.  She always smells like a spa.  It's relaxing just thinking about it.

I went to Costco on a Friday night.
Bought this salad mix and it turned out delicious!  Go Kale!

I thought that after Costco I would swing by Ikea to get some ideas for the house.  If you have a foot injury and it hurts to walk too much, don't go to Ikea.  It may seem obvious to the casual observer, but apparently I'm too close to the issue to see the obvious.  My foot hurt like a bitch after.  A little ice and elevation made it better!

After stopping at the grocery store I went to my parents house and my dad and I split this bag of wings. I watched my medic chow them down last week and I've been craving them ever since.  We polished it off.  Thanks Bret, you are a bad influence.  BTW, he was also responsible for the Kingpin reference.  I didn't even know who that was.

Lastly
Rollin in a new pair of kicks!
I've never worn Mizuno and I'm beginning to think I don't have a brand loyalty.  I did not buy these shoes for running, but are just for everyday use.  They have a more substantial heel to help the ole right sided pain sucker heal.  I must say, I love them.  They are comfy, stylish, new and seem to be helping.
