FALL RISK

I worked 5 days in a row last week. It included last Wednesday and I worked up through Sunday. I charged for 3 days and the last day was a plethora of patients going out and coming in and the hospital was completely constipated and full. It's a simple math thing that can be so overwhelming that it makes me wonder about who failed their math class. Then there was the incident where someone thought that talking to me about something I said previously in the middle of a busy MICU was a much better idea then in private. I'm still mulling that over that situation. Let it go? Formal complaint? Try a one on one meeting? I have a feeling that her false idea of power will make the decision for me and that is to let it go. The hospital is full of ego's that feel wonderful when they belittle someone in public. Unfortunately in this case I was blindsided and she frankly looked like an idiot.
AMEN.
Glad to get that off my chest. Maybe I can stop bitching and thinking about it.

I blame her.
I fell.
I was still upset and I fell.

I fell OUT of the shower. Not only did I fall on the floor full on and completely out of the shower, I fell out in the middle of my shower. I was trying to adjust the mat in the tub and wham! I was laying on the floor of the bathroom with the bath mat next to me. Mockery? That was a sassy bathmat anyway, so we threw it away in spite.

I didn't know whether I wanted to laugh or to cry so I laughed until I cried and finally revealed my hilarious secret by about 10am at work. My co-worker Terri Michele was having a bad day and I decided I could use my pain and horror to turn it around. It was funny and she put a FALL risk armband on me for the rest of the day. After that my day went pretty great from then out. Of course the rest of my co-workers mocked me and made me laugh until I cried (again) at lunch. Then I enjoyed a less stressful afternoon taking care of my two patients that were actually grateful and kind.

Injuries include bruising and scrapes on my scapula with a matching bruise on my upper arm. I have an odd bruise on my index finger (all left side) and I must have jammed my ring finger because getting on my wedding ring since then has been painful and tight. I can't even imagine what my patients must feel having been in multiple traumas. Can you imagine me in a multiple trauma? Talk about your whine fest!!

I'm not a good hurt person. I don't cry or scream, but I certainly write long winded blogs about my pain and suffering.

By the way, I stood up and got back in the shower - finished my shower and then went to work. I like to think I get that toughness from my dad. He can tear something in his shoulder and then ski 2 more runs. I'm popping ibuprofen to take the edge off and should be well healed within days.

On another note. Do you ever wonder how big the beds get in the hospital?? Well, we were instructed to try out a new Bari (Bariatric) bed for 30 days on our unit. I was charging, so a few of us jumped in and had other nurses take pics and start the rotation.

The girls all in one bed. Me, Jen Q and Britney. Britney likes to play the innocent girl but she jumped in toot sweet!!

Thanks Baylen for taking the picture and Trent for turning on the auto turn. My leg is swung over the bed and the bed sinks on my side and we fall to that side, just to be lifted and sunk to the other side. This isn't even the widest of the Bari beds. They go so wide that I can hardly reach over them.

It's a pet peeve. I think they should tax McDonald's....instead of taking away clove cigarettes and taxing the "sins" to death.

But that's just me.....

Anniversary getaway or The Palmolive fiasco!

Last night Matt and I went up to Park City to stay at the SUNDIAL lodge at the Canyons. Matt had arranged a nice room, breakfast and skiing passes for the next day. How romantical! He even asked for a room with a jetted tub...giggity giggity! I love my husband!

We stopped at the factory stores on the way up and he bought me some hot jeans at Lucky Brand. We also bought some cookies, shoes and a few shirts. I love going to Izod. I want to be a golfer after I leave there. Their outfits are so dang cute and i could go CRAZY!

Anywhoo...
While checking into the SUNDIAL, they had a mix up on our reservations. Then we went to our room and the inside lock was closed and we had to wait - in the hall - 45 minutes for the right maintenance man to finally show up and let us in. The good news, I got a high score on my Tetris game! YES!

That done, the room was a nice 2 room suite with a little kitchenette. That was about the time the front desk figured out their mistake and let Matt know that YES, he had already paid for the lift tickets.

Off we go to dinner, it was great, good service.

Back to our room, we decided to have a bath, together. I wanted to soak for a few minutes and so I put a itty bitty squirt of the Palmolive dish soap in the water. Palmolive that I found under the sink at the hotel.

............the bath.......... (details of which are kept secret, but there was no bruises or harm done to either participant or surrounding drywall)

I must note, the jets didn't work. We turned them on and they kinda pulsated - in a bad way - so we turned them right off.

It's nine o clock at night and there is a knock on our door. There is a leak downstairs in the rental shop, and all the water is bubbly. They check out the tub, apologize and leave. They even put a note under our door, apologizing.

ELEVEN at night - another knock at our door. The security guard and some guy in a suit. They want our statements of what happened and to put a 500.00 hold on our credit card. WHY? Well, apparently, putting dish soap in a jetted tub is using a jetted tub irresponsibly. What the???

I wouldn't fill out the form and told Matt we were leaving and getting an attorney. Actually, I went off on the little shits and stomped off! Kinda like I did years ago when the cops came to a house where some friends and I were hot tubing and told us we were being too loud. Jumped right out of the tub, buck nekkid, and stomped past the cop. So I have a history with cops and bubbly bodies of water.

Matt took over and I sat on the couch giving the evil eye. Matt is so smart and so calm, it's freakin amazing. He talked on the phone to some management guy and agreed to the deposit and then we left.

It's almost midnight and we packed up and left the SUNDIAL hotel. We will fight charges later and Matt has yet to find out if the Palmolive actually caused a massive leak in the tub in the span of a 20 minute bath. (that was their theory)

Of course we won't have to pay if something else was broken. Stay tuned....

Although our weekend plans together changed, I can't imagine having that experience with anyone else or being with anyone else. We will definitely plan another weekend getaway soon!

Just wanted all to know, if you go to the SUNDIAL lodge at the Canyons, you could be paying for their repairs.

Oh and, Happy Anniversary to us!!!

complimentary post

I hate to go too long without a little note in my blog. Mostly because I like it when other bloggers post frequently, even if they are lame posts. Such as this.
Since I have been home from my honeymoon I have found myself bored bored bored. Planning a wedding was time consuming and forever on my mind. Now that it is over, I need to restart my hobbies and stuff I love to do.
Since running is still on my "love to do" list, I went to a sports medicine doctor to figure out the damn pains in my foot and leg. I think I already put my thoughts on that and the damn boot. EWWWW
But I do it and my little exercises, in hopes of hitting the 5 mile mark by maybe next September.
Mostly I have just been working. I need the money and they need the skills. Frankly I'd rather be at work sometimes then home for all that special housework and stuff that tends to be my responsibility. Actually I just finished three night shifts in a row, so if this post sounds a little pissy, then it is truly portraying my mood.
Here is a few fun pics from my place of work. OK, not too fun, but hey, it's my job.
These three boxes are the emergent cardiac med boxes. If we use these in a code then the patient is only charged for the medicines themselves and not the entire charge of the code cart. Using these pleases our pharmacist, Kyle to no end. Always pinchin a penny! Usually we only use one at a time, but the patients that I picked up had spent the night coding and having heart massage - so they just kept grabbing them. By the time I got on shift the patient was "stable" and I was cleaning things out. I took this picture to show Kyle. I think he tingled when I showed it to him!
This picture just doesn't do it justice. I had already cleaned up most of it. I really should have taken the pic of my shoe in the puddle of blood. I don't make a habit of blood-letting my patients, BUT, I happen to remove an IV line at the wrong point and it back bled onto the floor. Not the BED thank god!! It seems like a lot of blood, but it wasn't. His hematocrit was stable and my shoe was washed and is continuing it's role as foot stabilizer when I am at work. It was kinda funny though. I mean, there was blood on my arms!! After that point my day went much better - at least better then it had been going.

SO there ya go. What has basically been going on since the big event. I am not working so much this week, so maybe I will come up with a sweet and "I'm so happy I could die" post. I will work on it.
