Pump up the jam!

I have no idea why that song is in my head.  I didn't even listen to music during this workout.  I apologize in advance for it being in your head.

Driving up to work I was reading/listening to Rich Roll's new book, "Finding Ultra".  I'll write a review when I'm done but I was fascinated when he talks about training in HR zone 2, or basically keeping your HR low as you workout and your endurance will increase and so will your speed.  I have heard about HR training before, but haven't read enough about it to really know what it's all about.  I'm very interested in learning more.

I figured out my zones today.  Of course I skipped over all the articles about athletes that had blood taken and lactic acid blah blah blah.  I am just wanting the basics for now.

I found a simple calculator on the Runners Connect site.  Even though I just guessed at my resting HR I think it gave me an idea of the information I'm looking for.
Max HR: 176
Zone 1: 126 - 137
Zone 2: 138-150
Zone 3: 151-162
Zone 4: 164-175

The numbers look about right.  I decided that even though I can't run, I can bike and get on the elliptical at the gym and I was going to try and keep my HR in Zone 2.  I need to get my Garmin set up for it, but for today I just used the HR setting on the machine. I'm at work in Wyoming so I went to the apartment gym and wow - I wish they were better machines, but I got it done.  30 minutes.

Watching the Giants put the hammer down!

After I did my planks, side planks, crunches and push ups.

Then I took pictures from the floor.

I had a TRX class yesterday and today the elliptical.  I feel much better now that I'm doing some sort of exercise.  I want to keep up my endurance and feel better.  I'm working some overtime this week so it will be sketchy as to how much time I have to work out, but I'll plan on something.  Foot did OK.  I may have to support it more when I work out, but overall it didn't hurt too much.

How do you feel about Heart Rate training?

Think the NFL would hire me?

"Don't let me die".  Those were my thoughts on my last run. Yesterday I had 12 hours during the day off duty before my last 12 hour night shift for the week.  I signed off at 1020 and figured if I hustled outside I could get my 14 miles in before it became a total scorcher outside.
I was wrong, so very wrong.

I felt good too!  Until about mile 6.  OK, mile 4.  I wasn't tired I was just HOT.  I stopped at the rec center to use the bathroom (I had to pee! - dang I'm getting old), ran a couple more miles and stopped at my car which I had parked so I could stop at it twice to get ice water and energy if I needed it.  I had some energy chews and a big bottle of icy water and headed off again.  Miles 6 - 10 were interesting.  I stopped at about mile 9 to fill up my water bottle with ice and water at the gas station (and pee again - for the love!).  By the time I got to mile 10ish, I only had ice and no water and I felt totally exhausted and HOT!!  SO, I finished up that loop and when I got to my car again I drank another ice water and decided to go back to the off duty apartment and maybe finish up the last 3.4 miles just running around the complex.  When I drove off I noticed the temperature was 94 degrees.  All bets were off.  I don't want to get heat exhaustion and not be able to work later that day.  So I called it a done deal at 10.6 miles.

Splits (remember long slow run....emphasis on SLOW)

1 - 9:44
2 - 10:44
3 - 11:01 - Big hill
4 - 10:42
5 - 10:30
6 - 10:30
7 - 10:49
8 - 11:27
9 - 11:41 - Bill hill
10 - 11:07
Last .6 miles - 10:35

Total 10:60 miles in about 1 hour 54 minutes.
1205 calories.
2000 feet higher above sea level then I'm use to and HOT!!

I went to run errands briefly after I had drank about a gallon of ice water.  I picked up some KT tape for my foot. I had been reading about it and thought it would be world giving it a try.  Since KT tape was all I could find in Rock Springs, that was the tape for me.
I watched the YouTube video and didn't do SO bad.  I'll need to retape it again, but most of it stayed on overnight.
Orange and black - weird Halloween Colors.
Peaking through the tops of my shoe!

The next morning I was AMAZED!!  There was no pain on getting out of bed.  I am a believer!  I still wore my shoes as much as possible, but I plan on keeping it taped for a couple of weeks.  Oh it's heaven.

Do you think I have the skills for the NFL to hire me to help wrap their athletes???  Wouldn't that be sweet!

Vikings VS Cowboys

Matt and I outside the Mall of America Stadium

This year Matt and I decided to forgo our trip to New York (GASP!!) and go to a football game in Minnesota. We both like the Vikings and it's such a cheaper trip. The New York Giants are pretty much pricing us out of being able to see a game. I think the cost of our Minnesota trip was about the same as just the tickets to the Giants. So, for now, I think we are going to travel around and check out the more affordable stadiums/teams and when we go to New York, which will be soon I hope, we can spend that money on something fantastic!!

The Vikings played both my favorite team (NYG) and Matt's favorite team (Dallas - I know, and I STILL married him). Unfortunately the Giants played there in December when it was really close to Christmas and we hadn't seen the Cowboys yet. I saw them years ago, but it's only fair that Matt sees his team...I guess. Hahaha

Despite Favre's drama the Vikings pulled out an easy win and I was able to see Romo cry his way into the locker room. (Hey, I write the blog - I get artistic license and that whole free speech thing)

Matt and I had a blast and it was awesome to spend a weekend together alone and remember that even though we are working way too much that we still love each other MUCHO and think that we'll stick it out another year or so.

Welcoming Band! Ready for some Midwestern PARTY!!
In our seats, which, by the way, were great seats!! It was tough getting decent tickets this year! Apparently Dallas is a hot team to watch.
View.
Vikings out to practice. Can you spot the hot butt??
Here is another chance.
You can win a contest and blow a huge horn. YES
Out comes Dallas, including Romo. See all those false hopes and dreams??
I'm trying to get a good pic of us and the stadium. Make sure we have it for when we finally have us in all 31 stadiums!! Woot Woot.
Motorcycle first and then the team!! A little much? yeah.
There he goes and the fireworks.
The flag "guys". Give someone a flag and white shoes and have them run around a football field. It's just very un-manly.

I can't explain men and spandex. Full body spandex makes me speechless and these guys did not have their license to wear it. Spandex is a PRIVILEGE not a right.
The mascot Viking
I'm getting ready to WIN!
Game on.
His best side and best feature.
Mixed drinks that turn purple when they are cold. Awesomeness!
Therapy? Yeah, I'm going to need it. You can never UNSEE that.
Such a cool stadium. Who cares about the bigger better stadiums. This one has been the most fun so far with it's hometown feel and super fun fans from everywhere!
A little Farve in action.
1st down, 1 yard to go and the ball on the 1st yard line. Sweet.
Talkin SMACK!! Matt is pointing to his shirt.
The real viking - dancing with the cheerleaders. He was awesome. He did the same dance the cheerleaders did on the other side of the field. Hot!
Romo heads to the locker room to cry.

The end.

Daniels Day 8.29.2009

On Saturday, Daniel played with his WMCA group at the opening of the new Children's Center downtown. He did a great job and love to go watch him play!!

The whole band.

Daniel is taking his guitar serious and then there is a pic of him and Evan actually smiling AND you can see them!

Daniel and Evan, friends since grade school.

Nate, the other guitarist and Felicia, their lead singer.

My mom and dad came to check out his tunes!

Matt and Sami were there to support him too! They always are.
Then on to FOOTBALL!!

Daniel (#50) swinging around looking for a hard hit and waiting for a play to start.

The team!

It was a pre-season game and they played it at the Olympus High football stadium. It was huge compared to our regular fields. They played against my Alma mater - Brighton High. I had no feelings about that. Well, except that I graduated from there. Daniel did great and had a exciting, but tiring day.
